Tuktoyaktuk Expedition August 1st 2018

Post by Nomad » Wed Aug 10, 2016 9:54 pm

Tuktoyaktuk Expedition August 1st 2018
Explore : Discover : Achieve
An expedition to the Arctic Ocean taking the newly built gravel road those interested in going post your interest in going below.

Guesstimated distance 54 h (3,761.6 km) via BC-37 N and 7 to 10 days one way with a few stops along the way to do some exploring.

We will be working on Equipment list and these will be should have items if going on this Expedition.
Items marked red will be the must have or stay home items

-2 spare tires/jack & tire iron
-tire repair kit/plugs/air gauge
-air compressor
-tools for repairs/you know like sockets and wrenches
-4 to 5 liters of oil or good for one oil change
-brake fluid/transmission fluid/
-CB Radio and/or VHF Radio (preferred) - Must have one of these or stay home no wiggle room on this one.
-Winch will not be needed but if you have one let us know would be nice if one or two of you did have winches just in case
-25 liters of drinkable water (Should be enough for 1 week) and filled/topped up when clean water is available
-Tent unless your sleeping in vehicle
-Sleeping bag rated at -0 or better remember this will be the arctic we are going to
-Cold weather clothing and boots just in case
-You should have at least a minimal Survival Kit
-Extra Food just in case also would be a good idea to have even if its just a bag of rice to fill your belly
-Those that want to bring along a firearm for camp security are welcome to do so

We will be wild camping along the way also so a quest for a camping spots will be on come evening/so bring your camping gear along

If you can think of must have items for this trip please let us know but I dont want this list to get out of hand as some will have minimal space in their vehicles.

A time and meeting spot for everyone is still to be picked so throw a few out their for us to pick from thanks...

I am thinking it will take 12 to 14 days for one way if you know better how long this trip may take please chime in..
I would also like to spend a couple days or more in Tuktoyaktuk and get to know the locals as this will be the only trip up for me.

Most likely a few side trips along the way as well just to explore the far north..

Anyone that may not be able to go but would like to help fund the trip can donate at our: Donation Page

Places of interest along the way that I think we should stop at and check out.
Inuvik
Dawson
Whitehorse
Dawson Creek
Tuktoyaktuk - Final Destination

I am in contact with someone who lives up in Inuvik and I am picking his brains for info
I also have read that it is a good time to catch the northern lights as well that would be so cool to see..
